The movie that was awesome.....

Hi all

Well I am not a movie buff per se.But whichever movies I watch I think a lot over them in critical(sometimes cynical :p) point of view.(Often criticised for that..lol)
Some movies makes you forget about them the moment you step outside the theatre. The only thing you remember about them is the Title and the Ticket price. Some on the other hand engrave their signature on your mind.

I thought of writing about such movie(watched on my pc) that appealed me a lot.Its "Bawarchi" by Hrishikesh Mukharji.

If you've watched the classic "Anand" by the same director, you'd find that the basic theme is the same.ie how one person influences everyone around him, adds his very special catalyst to their lives and changes them forever.
And yet both are not just same. You'll like both of them differently.

A regular middle class family home and few actors.Thats really all about the "recipy" of bawarchi. But it is backed by a strong script and amazing direction...not to mention the actors performance.
And an x-factor which only the directors of his calibre can add ie "Soul".

The movies about a family whose members quarrel all the time.Do not value others. There always are frequent altercations over relatively petty points.Everythng is haywire. No one is happy. The family is totally in doldrums.
Then one fine day a Bawarchi (a Cook/singer/dancer/mathematician..and what not) finds his way into their home like a messiah.Through small day to day things he teaches them valuable lessons of life.He slowly drives their diffrences away.
From being a totally dysfunctional family they slowly began to harmonize among themselves and start loving each other. They understand and start appreciating each others value. The squabbles, ego clashes, spites, bad blood vanishes eventually.

And at the end of the movie, having accomplished his mission,he bids them goodbye and continues his journey in search of the next such family where he is required.

The movie has around 2 songs(may be 3).
Both of which are very soulful and melodious. And exactly connects the parts of the movie between which they are placed.
Rajesh Khanna has done total justice to his role as Bawarchi like he did in "Anand".The other not-so-popular actors also gave a decent contribution.

Its is more than 3 hrs long. And yet at no point you feel even an inch bored. This is one of those movie which you can watch again and again just to liven your mood up.You can just totally relate to it.The simplicity and the realistic depiction is the beauty of this movie.

A good film according to me is when you watch it and couldnt help thinking over it again and again. And This one surely qualifies as one.
This is definitely the chef-d'oeuvre of Hrishikesh Mukharji's works.(amongst his other masterpieces) and a one of the milestones of Hindi films.

Sadly his era is long gone and we are left with the regular crap the bollywood has to offer us nowadays.Hardly any movies can fit into the classic league.(Save few respectable exceptions)
Either it has to some cheap rip-off of a hollywood movie,or the silly slapstic humor with nonsensical plots crammed with even more irrelevant songs.(However melodious).Ofcourse people advise you to keep your brain aside while watching such movies.I tried that and understood that its not my cup of tea.It felt stupid when the entire theatre around you is having a laugh riot and you could hardly come up with a smile..:p.So kinda stopped watching bolly comedy in theatres..hehe

The subjects like mafia, underworld, love stories, ghosts have been smoothen down to perfection with their hackneyed use.
Innovation has become a passe.Only the revenue collection matters.Have a superstar cast, insert some sexy masala song with the lead actress in saree :p
and start its promotion an year before the movie is actually released.
More or less this is all what most of the Bolly movies are about.

Of course then are some who aberrate from the routine and come up with movies which give you the feeling of "paisa vasool" at the end of the movie.
Movies like Rang De Basanti,TZP,Wednesday,Jab we met,DevD etc still keeps me attached to the Bollywood industry.
We seriously need more such directors and such script writers who can make us believe once again that we are not very far from Hollywood in terms of quality movie making.

Regards.
